HALLOWEEN IDIOMS

Jako że dziś Halloween, a jutro All Hallows’ (czy tez All Saints’) Day przedstawiamy kilka zwrotów na czasie, związanych z tematem śmierci:

DEATH:

to be sick to death of something – mieć czegoś serdecznie dość

e.g. I’m sick to death of the smog in the city.

to look like death warmed up – „wyglądać jak śmierć na urlopie”

e.g. What happened? Are you ill or something? You look like death warmed up.

to be bored to death – śmiertelnie się nudzić

The lesson was really dull, we were both bored to death with it.

KILL:

to be killing somebody – dobijać kogoś, dawać się we znaki

e.g. I’ve walked 20 km today, my feet are killing me.

to kill – wprawić w zachwyt

e.g. When she started singing her vooice killed me.

Ale również mniej oczywiste;)

to kill – obalić (np. butelkę alkoholu)

e.g. He can really kill a bottle of beer very fast.

I trzy wyrażenia idiomatyczne, które znaczą „umrzeć”:

to kick the bucket

e.g. Oh, didn’t you know? He kicked the bucket long ago!

to pop sb’s clogs 

e.g. He’s popped his clogs.

to go to meet  sb’s maker     

e.g. He’s gone to meet his maker.

Oczywiście należy pamietać, że wszystkie powyższe wyrażenia są nieformalne i używamy ich jedynie w sytuacjach żartobliwych.
